Inky caps, or Coprinopsis atramentaria, are widely known as 'Tippler's Bane' because it makes people violently ill if they consume alcoholic beverages and eat them. Anabuse is a drug given alcoholics to prevent them from drinking, and it was derived from Inky Caps. Otherwise, they are delicious, as long as they haven't dissolved into black goo, into which they deliquesce as they age.

I am constantly surprised by mushrooms found on both sides of the Atlantic, like Chanterelles, Inky Caps, and King Boletes.
