I watched a child cry last night as she realized that when her first grade ends, so will the daily communication of her friends and teacher. Her school moves the kids to entirely different buildings at each grade. Mixing up the kids, thus the tears. I get it.

Meanwhile, my daughter is ending high school and can't wait.

Made me think about endings and loss.

Everything ends.

Records end - as the needle moves back home. This moment gives us a breath to take in what just went through us in song

Poems end - and silence offers a chalkboard for the heart to dance with the mind

Stories and books end - a moment to sit and hold the book.. smiling

Movies end - often with a Disney Love Hug, or just the credits rolling as we stare un believing. Seeking to unfold something more

Ice cream cones end - the last bite is the best, wanting more now

But notice that the ending is sometimes the grand finally or just a little sputter and fade.

It's after the ending where we notice how... what was there... is still here now... maybe in a different form... maybe as a feeling, a visual memory but its still here.

Can we still taste it?

Take a memory of a great beach day that was... sit with it and feel yourself smile.

Its now in a place to taste it even more.

Endings... yes... they have a purpose.
