¡Saludos, queridos amigos de #EmpowerTalent! 🙌

Nadie sabía cómo me llamaba. Nadie conocía mi historia. Nadie me debía respeto.

Greetings, dear friends of #EmpowerTalent 🙌.
Once again I join this beautiful Tuesday initiative, where every week we dive into themes that invite us to grow, heal and awaken. Today I bring you a very personal story, marked by struggle, pain, migration, family love and hope. Because waking up is not always opening your eyes... sometimes it is losing everything to find yourself again. I invite you to read me with an open heart. ❤️
For 18 years I was part of the Scientific Police of Venezuela. From a very young age I worked my way up through the ranks, facing the rawest side of life: I worked in departments of theft, robbery, homicide, drugs, gender violence... and although I saw many shadows, I also tried to always be a light for the victims. I never considered myself the best, but those who knew me know that I was a man who was correct, committed, and willing to reach out when someone needed it. However, over time, the system began to show its true face. It pushes you, corners you, and intends to turn you into one more: one more piece on the board, even if you have to step on innocents to meet the results. 💔
Venezuela was becoming more dangerous every day, more “spicy”, as we say, and within the force the atmosphere was becoming suffocating. I felt used, but never in my favor... always in favor of a sick system. While I was on the force, I provided security for my family. While on the force, I was a respected inspector. While on the force, I lacked nothing. But still, something was missing: myself. A void told me something wasn't right. And in a country where resigning was almost declaring war on the State, where you were branded a traitor to the homeland, I made the most difficult but most dignified decision: to leave the system, to find myself. 🇻🇪✊
That was my first awakening. It was not easy. But it was necessary.

As I was saying, leaving the system was not as easy as simply saying "I'm leaving ”. It was a decision I made with my wife, my life partner, my unconditional support 💞. Taking advantage of the fact that I was owed a lot of vacation, I managed to get two periods approved together, which gave me exactly three months. Without saying anything to anyone, only with the complicit heart of my wife, I left everything in her hands: my gun, my credential, my memories... also a letter of resignation with a definite date, the name and telephone number of the person to whom everything was to be delivered. And so it was that I crossed the border of the known and set out on the journey towards the uncertain. ✈️🇦🇷
Three months later, my resignation was handed in and the resolution came out, just as we planned. But although legally I was out of the system, emotionally I still had to learn what it meant to be free. When I arrived in Argentina, I felt the wind in my face as a symbol of that freedom I so longed for 🌬️... but I also found myself with a truth that hits the soul: I was no longer the inspector, I was no longer that respected, admired man, with fine suits, van, comfortable house and a social identity built with years of effort. Here I was nobody. Nobody knew my name. No one knew my story. No one owed me respect.
I went from wearing a tie to wielding a broom. From signing important papers to washing dishes. From having authority to cleaning toilets. 😔 The funny thing is that I had already experienced all that in Venezuela, before joining the force. I saw the officers and dreamed of being like them... and I succeeded. But when I was inside, I discovered a bitter truth. Today I recognize that it was the will and love for my family that sustained me. My first five years in Argentina were very hard, I broke many times inside, but I never stopped fighting. 💪
Now, with more stability, with a job that may not be perfect, but that allows me to live, pay for my things and, above all, be with my wife, my son and my mother-in-law, I can proudly say: I survived, I woke up... and I'm still standing.

There are cries that no one hears. Tears that no one sees. And silences so deep that they deafen inside. 😔 In the transition period between leaving the police force and adapting to this new life in Argentina, I felt that I was rebuilding myself day by day. Seven months had passed since I arrived in this beautiful land that opened its doors to me and, with a lot of effort, I had managed to buy the tickets to bring my wife, my son, my mother-in-law and my youngest daughter, Maria de Jesus. 🌎✈️ It was an immense joy. Every night, no matter how exhausted I was, I made video calls to them. In one of them, I showed them the tickets... and they screamed with excitement. They were coming on my birthday no less: December 14. Everything seemed to line up.
But life...life sometimes strikes without warning. 😢 One Friday, right after I got home from work, I got a call: my daughter wasn't feeling well and had been taken to the doctor. She had a heart condition, and although we were living taking care of her, that day she didn't reach anything. Hours later, the worst news a parent can receive came: my daughter had passed away, at just 13 years old. On that September 29, 2019, my soul broke. I left everything: job, rent, fear, and I returned to Venezuela without thinking about the consequences, even knowing that they could arrest me for forcibly quitting. But I didn't care. I just wanted to see her one more time. 💔
I sold what little I had to pay for the flight, to pay for everything I needed... and on that trip, something inside me was extinguished. The light in my soul went out. I felt dead in life. I didn't want to walk, or think, or plan anything. She was the apple of my eye, and without her, the world lost its colors. 🌑 But if there was anyone who sustained me in the midst of the abyss, it was my wife. Her strength in mourning was what pushed me to return to Argentina, to try to go on. I came back, yes... but with my soul in pieces. I cried in silence every night. I lived in automatic mode. And still, I breathed.
That December, the cavalry arrived: my wife, my son, my mother-in-law... and with them, a new air. It wasn't easy, but together we began to rebuild something that seemed lost. Because even if the soul cries out... sometimes, with love, it is heard again. 🫂

In the midst of all this rebuilding process, when my soul was still broken and my strength half-hearted, something unexpected appeared in my life... Hive. At first it was simply an escape route. A window to tell what was happening to me, to release what was inside me, to talk about my story without feeling judged. ✍️ Each publication was a kind of therapy, a conversation with myself and with the world. I wrote about my life, about what I had left behind, about what hurt... and little by little, that platform that seemed far away became a space for healing.
What I didn't imagine was that Hive would also be a new awakening. 🌱 It made me rediscover talents that were dormant in me: writing, design, creativity, connecting with others. I, who used to solve crimes and wear uniforms, now found myself creating content, dreaming big, but with my feet on the ground. I discovered that you don't need a badge to have a voice, or an office to make your mark.
Today, I continue working, yes, in a modest job, but with my head held high, with dignity and peace. And beyond work, I have a personal mission: to keep creating, to keep telling stories, to keep growing. Hive gave me more than a community... it gave me a place where I could be me again. Thanks to every text, every project, every interaction, I understood that talents don't die, they just sleep... and when you wake up, they come back to life stronger than ever. 💡
That's my path today. It may not have the brightness of before, but it has something I lacked before: truth. Because only when one truly awakens, one is able to walk with an awakened soul and a peaceful heart. ❤️
We all have a moment where we feel that something in us changes, where we no longer fit into the previous mold. That moment, as painful as it may be, is the beginning of awakening. May my story serve to remind you that even in the deepest darkness... there is always a new dawn waiting for you. 🌅
