There are images that cross time. Some are kept in albums, others cling to the soul... This one I share today, the one of my daughter María de Jesús, belongs to both.
April 2009 marked a before and after in our lives. It was an ordinary afternoon, but with an unknown pain in her chest, one that did not come from us... but from her little heart.
It was at the Hospital Cardiológico Infantil Latinoamericano Gilberto Rodríguez Ochoa, in Caracas, where we finally got answers. I remember the doctors' words as if they were today:
🩺 "This girl has severe congenital heart disease, with single ventricle, reverse viscera...eight cardiac malformations. And yet, we don't understand how she's still breathing."
One of the doctors was silent. Then, almost with tears in his eyes, he said a sentence that marked us:
🙏 “She is a miracle. ”
From there, our true test as parents began. Gesmary and I faced life with the courage that you don't know you have until a child needs it.
We relied on faith, hugs, family prayers, and unconditional love that sustained us even when we felt the ground was shaking.
I slept at an aunt's house in Caricuao, near the hospital. Gesmary stayed with our daughter, who was treated with every comfort and care like the princess she was.
And even though the diagnosis was devastating, she smiled....
🕊️ As if there was no pain.
🕊️ As if she knew her mission was something else: **to brighten the lives of all who knew her.
**Maria de Jesus lived thirteen years worth a hundred.
She was a child with the soul of a teacher, the heart of an artist and the spirit of a warrior.
At school, from preschool through high school, everyone loved her. There was no one who did not smile with her witticisms, with her way of comforting, with her ability to bring out a laugh even in the midst of tiredness.
🎨 She wanted to be an influencer, and without knowing it, she already was.
But not of products, not of networks... but of life.
She influenced with her example, with her joy, with her strength.
When something didn't work out, she got frustrated, yes... but she immediately got up with her favorite phrase, the one that still echoes in my mind like a celestial mantra:
She said it to me one day, while recording her first video for her YouTube channel. That day I understood that I had a wise daughter, old of soul, full of light. She was given to me by God, and although her passing was short in years, it was eternal in meaning.
...an angel with her own name.
...a smile that overcame pain.
...a voice that taught without shouting.
...a daughter, a sister, a friend, a star.
And today, in this #TBT full of emotions, **memory becomes an altar.
Because although she is no longer physically, she lives in every gesture of ours, in every cloud that is tinged with gold, in every heartbeat where her name is still pronounced.
For showing us the true value of life.
For teaching us to be brave when we were most afraid.
For reminding us that joy is also a form of resilience.
💫 Thirteen years with you were an immense blessing.
And although you left early, you left a mark that neither time, nor death, nor silence will be able to erase.
🌈 You are part of what we are. Of what we will be.
And every #TBT will be one more excuse to tell you:
Thank you, Mary of Jesus. Thank you for choosing us. Thank you for loving us.
May you all have a day full of love, of memories that embrace, and of stories that remind us that life is worth more when it is shared from the soul.
I write to you this moved, grateful and proud father: @theshot2414, who today pays tribute to his daughter, to his legacy of light and to every brave heart that fights from silence.
Thank you for allowing me to tell this story that doesn't hurt... it caresses.
Thank you for reading with your soul and accompanying me on this journey as intimate as it is eternal.
My embrace goes also to Prof. @lanzjoseg, for opening this sacred space where memories bloom as offerings of love. Who gives us every week this beautiful initiative of #juevestbt, where images speak, and emotions are dressed in words.
I carry them with me, as I carry Maria de Jesus in every heartbeat. 🕊️💖🌈
