It’s easy to think that as a result of the extinction of the dodo, we are now sadder and wiser, but there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that we are merely sadder and better informed.”
― Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See
On my AI Platforms I tried a number of ways to get some interesting images of extinct birds. As a surrealist, I am not interested in getting scientific specimen museum pieces. So even though the Dodo Bird was part of my prompts, using moderators like 'cryptid' gave me fantasy creatures. On some of my later attempts I used a dada poem I created for a prompt.
THE DODO BIRD
Giant dodo bird, a tumble of feathers,
plump as a marshmallow cloud,
squawking secret languages,
twirling on the edge of banana peels,
sipping rain from bottle caps,
whispering to the unruly sky,
what is gravity in a world of pancake dreams?
socks without partners,
slipping through the cracks of the universe,
while the dodo dances,
a pirouette of absurdity,
wings made of jellybeans,
laughter exploding like confetti in a cactus garden,
follow the plump parade,
the nonsense,
a treasure hunt for lost echoes,
where clocks melt like cream on a Tuesday afternoon.
Here, the giant dodo bird,
a riddle wrapped in the silence of chocolate whispers,
poking fun at the ordinary,
while we, the spectators,
gaze, wide-eyed, at the chaos.
