My team and I planted a lot of trees today!
I also met with farmers from around the area to participate in the tree-planting activity. It was fun and easy. We planted guava trees, mango trees, orange trees, pawpaw trees, and many more.
Benefits of tree planting:
The processes involved in tree planting include:
First we selected a sunny spot with good soil for the trees to grow. Sandy soil was avoided.
We cleared the area of weeds and debris.
Next, we dug a hole twice as wide as the root ball, ensuring it's the same depth as the seedling.
Carefully, we removed the seedling from its container, ensuring the root ball stays intact.
We checked the roots for any damage. We changed the bad ones when we notice a damage.
We, then, placed the seedling in the hole, making sure it's level with the surrounding soil.
We backfilled the hole with soil, pressing it gently around the roots to remove air pockets.
We Watered the seedling thoroughly to settle the soil and hydrate the roots.
We applied mulch ( dry grasses) around the base to conserve moisture and prevent weeds.
Finally we will Water the trees regularly to keep the area free from weeds, and monitor the seedlings for pest. I am watering it tomorrow.
This photo was taken during the planting operation. We used shovels and cutlasses for the work. After planting, we watered the trees to ensure their survival.
