Hello everyone!

Nintendo seems to have done it again, putting out a perfect game is no easy task for any developer and even more so when those top games are the ones that differentiate your console from the competition, it's easy to forget that the Nintendo team has only a few bullets every year to justify buying new Switch and that one slip up can mean a year of losses, I think that makes every masterpiece they pull out of their sleeve even more meaningful. It seems there's Nintendo for a very long time when it comes to ideas and new mechanics and they don't forget to bring Switch games for a minute, something that's unusual to see from other game companies.

The success of Tears Of the Kingdom is good to talk about Nintendo's success as a game developer in the last decade, I know that as a company they have that dark side that drives them to follow parents who just want to relive the classics without being charged 60$ and downloading it from the internet, but putting that aside for a moment I think Nintendo is being the clear winner in many aspects thanks to a philosophy of pure innovation that they've been perfecting for a long time.

And I'm talking since the Wii days.

When this Nintendo domination plan began.

I've always associated Nintendo with stability, games where you know exactly what you're going to get and you can bet it's going to be at least fun, every now and then they can surprise you with well cooked and served concepts but what I look for in a Nintendo game is a good time and this always leaves me with the feeling that they don't have too much burden and pressure to release new games and they can work on new concepts and rework games until the last minute.

The focus on gameplay and innovation by developing experiences that stand out from the usual desktop competition (Sony, Microsoft) along with a catalogue that has been releasing game after game for decades and cultivating an audience has made Nintendo a starting point for many first timers who are just starting to play video games, after all who the fuck doesn't know Mario or Zelda? Nintendo already had the names to build on and progress their gameplay so that's what they've been doing for the last decade.

Just look at games like Breath Of the Wild or Super Mario Oddissey which together with the Switch opened one of the most prolific stages of games for Nintendo, of course in every generation the big N releases a couple of masterpieces but I think this time is different, I think they have done better than the competition at the same time they have influenced a lot of developers to copy their formula and use that huge open world with many possibilities to create their own works.

It should be noted that Nintendo has achieved all of this by offering solid gameplay full of new and exciting ways to interact with their worlds, Breath Of the Wild seems to me to be the perfect sketch to draw the comparison and where Nintendo's dominance begins.

Non-linear gameplay, a map full of things to do and where you can see that there are activities beyond us passing through the map and interacting with NPCs, the graphics also seemed to me at the time a success, mixing a bit of what worked with the last installments of Link (Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword) with other inspirations like those of the Wind Waker saga and working on bringing a style that made sense to the graphical limitations of the Switch.

That game certainly offered what every Nintendo gamer expects, tons of fun, because these days I think it's a bit exaggerated to pay 60...70...80$ for a game that when you get home to play it doesn't cover the minimum required in a videogame:

to have fun.

It's that formula that Nintendo has decided to bet on again, logically the move has worked out incredibly well but always true to the company's philosophy, innovate in everything, if there isn't some mechanic that can be improved or some new way of delivering the experience we're likely to discard it so we won't green light any project that doesn't have something new to show, and yes, Tears Of the Kingdom is a good way to let other developers know that Nintendo is more alive than ever, and not only alive, it has the edge over everyone else.
