(by the way, I don't own the rights to this BEAUTIFUL & MEANINGFUL song!)
KWANZAA is a week-long celebration from December 26 to January 1. There are 7 main principles that have relevance to me and I have decided that I will share this with you.
Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race I believe this is very much needed
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define and name ourselves, as well as to create and speak for ourselves. We have a voice and our voices are beautiful!
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and to solve them together. The only way we can grow stronger is by doing it together. LOVE YOUR BROTHER/SISTER AS YOU LOVE YOU!
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together. We need to be Entrepreneurs more than consumers.
Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. Build hospitals, schools, banks..let's have our own!
Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. Take care of our Earth-Mother Nature! Farm your own food!
Imani (Faith): To believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle. FAITH IN THE UNIVERSE! SPEAKING WHAT WE WANT IN OUR LIVES!
