This year we grew SO much corn! We had gotten a bunch of free seeds at the Sherwood park seedy Sunday back in March and planted them all. I also had a little leftover strawberry Indian corn seeds left over from a couple years ago and popped them in as well. We have harvested everything except the strawberry, they seem to need more time because they're not ready even now in September.

The free seeds were labelled as Painted Mountain corn and Flint corn. The amazing colours we got surprised the hell out of us! We had initially just picked a couple ears that were dry on the stalks to check how it was growing. We sat down at the table and I peeled back the husk revealing the brilliant dark red kernels. I must have had a pretty intense look of shock because the husband was immediately concerned, 'what?!?' He asked, 'is it rotten? Bugs?' I just passed it over and along with it my look of surprise haha
Unfortunately our varieties don't seem to be good for popping or eating fresh, which we didn't really realize when we planted, but if we hadn't taken a chance we would have never discovered the amazing colours corn can be :)
Now we have a few friends already asking if they can have some seeds from our amazing corn and of course we are more than happy to share :)
