Furparent life update: I adopted two cats. Yes, you've read it right! There are two additions to my life as a furparent.
This is my cousin holding Shaunny and Taffy. Ma'am Edylin, their previous furparent sent this to me.
About a week ago, my cousin asked me if I wanted to adopt cats because his client has some that are up for adoption. I told him I was willing to adopt but after a few minutes, I changed my mind thinking that I was not yet ready to take on a role as a cat parent again. Suddenly, I remembered what I told myself at my dorm some time ago that I think I am ready again to be a cat parent and that I missed taking care of cats so, I took back what I said again and told him that I would be adopting the cats.
The owner of the cats is a certified cat lover as my cousin told me. He said that she is very hands-on with her cats and is very diligent in taking her pets for their checkups and grooming. This is also one of the things that I considered that made me want to adopt the cats because I knew that they were coming from a responsible pet owner.
The adoption process was easy, I connected with the owner on Instagram and she just asked me a few questions that will guarantee her that I will be responsible enough to take of her babies.
Here are a few questions that can help me assess you in ensuring that the cat will be with a good owner and in a safe environment.
Please answer all questions truthfully and honestly.
- Name of pet owner
- Where are you located?
- Do you currently have other pets in your house? If yes, please indicate the number of pets and their breed.
- If you answered yes to the previous question and your current pet is a medium-large breed of dog, will the cat be safe around them?
- Are you currently a breeder of cats/dogs/ if not, do you have any intention of being a breeder?
- Will the cat be staying indoors and free-roaming inside your house? / Will be caged only.
- Are you willing to take the cat to the vet regularly?
- On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest how interested are you in adopting a cat?
Thank you for your patience in answering all my questions thank you!
I’ll be in touch for the details of the cats if I think you are fit to be my cat’s new parent.
Here is my answer to all of her questions:
Hi, my name is TheMedWhoWrites from Albay. I currently have two dogs, one Aspin and one Shih Tzu. I guarantee you po that the cats will be safe around them because I plan to put them inside my room. And no po, I do not have any plans on breeding. In fact, our shih tzu is just new to us and I personally requested for it to be male because I am not interested in breeding.
Yes, as a vet student, I am willing to take them to the vet regularly.
I would rate it as 10/10. I've always wanted to adopt a cat again. I even asked myself if I was ready for the responsibility. One day, when I was at my dorm, I suddenly told myself that I think I am ready to have a new cat again.
The morning after she read my message she told me that I was chosen to be one of the adoptees. She brought the cats to the animal clinic where my cousin works and in the evening, the cats arrived home.
We decided to build a cage for them because our house does not have a gate. We are scared that they might get lost or stolen just like what happened to our previous cat, Riri. The cats are only be staying here when my sister and I are not at home.
The cats' names are Shaun/Shaunny, the year-old, and Taffy, the four-month-old. They are both Persian-Siamese mixed.
They have individual personalities, Shaun is quite aloof and Taffy on the other hand is so clingy. I think this is because of their age difference.
Maybe some of you might say, "Oh he just adopted those cats because they have breeds." Nope, this is not the case. I had Puspins before I had them and the reason why I also adopted these cats is because I felt that this was an opportunity that I didn't see coming. That maybe they are really for me.
As I take on a new responsibility, I wouldn't want my cats to feel like this is a new start for them, Hence, this is a continuation of the wonderful life they lived from their previous owner.
Let's promote #adoptdon'tshop for there are so many beautiful cats out there waiting to be found. Waiting for their perfect homes.
