One of the things I love most about Steem is the ability to interact with the people who follow me. I like that I can reward them for engaging with me; they comment, I comment back and give them a vote. After HF20 I decided I was only going to give 100% upvotes to comments on my posts. It didn't make sense to be giving smaller votes because they were so small they were close to dust. Fortunately, there were a number of services that seemed to be popping up that would find dust and vote on it to keep it from being wasted. One such service was dustsweeper@dustsweeper.

Now that we're in the world post HF21, the reward curve has changed and now doesn't give as much weight to posts at lower levels, including comments (which are just short posts on other people's posts). As such, it's going to be even less likely that your comments that are upvoted by me will actually pay out. Most likely they'll just blow into the wind like the dust they are. I get it, the idea is to combat spam. The policies in place for this likely do decrease the rewards that go to spammers. At the minimum they increase the amount of financial resources a person must commit in order to spam.

Since I'm trying to maximize the usefulness of my stake, I'm planning on discontinuing votes on the comments to my posts. It's not a punishment to everyone (or even any particular person). In fact, I'm a bit embarrassed that I won't be upvoting comments (if I remember to avoid it). The truth is that my vote won't matter, so I'd rather save the VP and spend it voting on your posts where votes will matter.

It's an adjustment, for sure. I think it will be a good one though. I still want to reward the people with whom I interact. It will just be in a different format than it has been in the past. Things change though, so we need to keep up with the times and seasons.

There you have it. Please keep commenting on my posts as you see fit. I love getting comments and try to respond to all of them. I'll be trying to remember not to vote those comments so I can save the VP for your posts. I do appreciate the time and effort you put into reading my posts and writing your comments.

Wishing you all the best!

What are you planning on doing differently now that we've forked again?
