Being my good lady's birthday I decided to take her away for the evening to one of our favorite spots... Tulbagh in the Swartberg region of the Western Cape. More specifically the Tulbagh Hotel where we spent a few nights on our honeymoon
Tulbagh town dates back to the early 18th Century and many of the original buildings are still around, most having been renovated back in 1969 when a strong earthquake damaged most of the town.

After the disaster in Church Street extensive projects of restoration began with the National Committee for the Restoration of Historic Buildings in Tulbagh and its Environment.[4] Because of this work Tulbagh now contains possibly the largest number of Cape-Dutch, Edwardian and Victorian provincial heritage sites in one street in South Africa, and remains a major tourist attraction of the town to the present day. The work started by the committee has been continued to the present day by various residents of Tulbagh, but also significantly by the Tulbagh Valley Heritage Foundation which aims to restore and maintain "all structures older than 60 years, the cultural landscape and undeveloped properties connected to the historical structures above".

After a long soak in a deep enamel bath we headed off to dinner. The Tulbagh Hotel has an excellent kitchen and we were looking forward to fare off the new menu.

We ordered a decent bottle of Chardonnay and got stuck into the menu. I go for a starter and a mains, my lady is the dessert queen so does mains and dessert.
One of three slices of exquisite Springbok carpaccio. Could have done with something a bit more acidic than the beetroot proved to be... but I ate it with absolute enjoyment
For her mains, my bestest half had the Oxtail stew served on spiced polenta... which was described as 'sublime'
I went for the Fish Pie, a mix of line fish and shrimps in a creamy parsley sauce topped with mashed potato.
Very tasty but certainly missing a few extra shrimps
With comfortably full bellies we headed off to ....

headed out into the countryside for a long walk .

Ginormous spiderweb .... can just imagine how much offspring can be accomodated in there {shiver}
Was a good relaxing night out and my lady was well pleased .
