I've always loved dahlias, too, especially the traditional ones with long petals. Those ball-shaped ones are kinda freaky-looking, though, like an oversized DumDum Pop™. But I really like the others! If you ever want to make a road trip one weekend, I have a suggestion of a place which I heard about last year:
Swan Island Dahlias has been in business for 93 years and their website states that they have 40 acres of dahlias at their location in the US state of Oregon and are open to the public!
August & September come stroll through almost 40 acres of beautiful dahlias at our farm in Canby, Oregon. The fields open August 1st each season and remain open through September (into October weather permitting). [source]
I ate at a restaurant last year that had gorgeous dahlia flowers the size of dinner plates! They had been ordered from Swan Island Dahlias, which is how I heard of them!
