in Canada, one can only attend school where their house is located by, so like designated address, if your house addy falls between 1-100 for eg. you can only attend school A. if your house addy is between 100-200, school B, like so.

so if you would like to attend other school where your house address doesnt fall on the designated school, you have to apply first, and that is referred as variance system.

its rather weird actually. lets say, your house is just across of a school, 1 minute walk, but if your addy isnt on the certain numbers, you wont be able to go to that school hahahaha
