Greetings @ubani1,
Welcome to the Ink Well Short Story Contest, and thank you for indicating the logline that inspired your story.
This is an effective narrative and it aptly applies the prompt. You explore the conflict essential to the character's actions and you develop motivation for the character.
Amanda has benefited from excellent parenting, but she feels she must learn about the circumstances of her birth.
Using notes to convey critical information about the narrative is a good device. It is also consistent with the mother's history. She wrote a note when she abandoned Amanda and she writes a note when she wishes to reunite with her daughter.
It's an interesting twist that Amanda's mother is a spy and Amanda is an FBI agent. The have pursued similar career paths, even though they do not know each other.
There are few suggestions that might help your story to flow more smoothly:
The first line might be more interesting if you left out some information not essential to the story. You have to grab readers with the first line.
In the second paragraph, there should be a comma instead of a period here:
....found me ,
and then a little rephrasing:
I started to get involved in ....
Readers' interest builds as Amanda reveals that her investigation is "ruffling feathers".
Your last line is great!
Your story was pleasure to read. It will be even better with a little bit of editing.
Good luck!
