This has an amazing arc. It comes to life beneath your pen (metaphorically speaking). There is a moral, but you do not moralize. Her 'ruthless' eyes do their work. They cut through the man until his conscious is wounded. He does the only thing he can to heal that wound. He saves her from the life to which he had indifferently directed her.
