This has the reader holding breath, waiting for the conclusion. Great job with creative nonfiction. There is a sort of boundary between fiction and nonfiction. Creative nonfiction exists on that boundary. Here you use the tools of fiction to relate a true event. This works well for you. We presume you actually did have this experience, this close call with destiny. And yet this reads like a story.
