A story with a twist. That is always welcome if the twist is executed skillfully. In this instance, that is the case. You foreshadow the ending deftly:

“One day, you’ll get lost in there!”

Any alert reader knows something bad is going to happen. Even though we are on the lookout for an adverse event, still you manage to surprise.

All there was, was the barren, empty floor of the barn.

Where is Terrance? The mind wanders to a Steven King-esque possibility.
