This is a highly imaginative tale, @edystringz. The act of kindness from the mer-people is so charming. And unlike most mermaid stories, everyone on the ship seems ready to believe that they are real, which is a fresh touch.

One thing that Anya says is rather curious:

"We saved you from drowning, and for that, you owe us your lives. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go back to my natural form."

This seems to suggest that they are expecting repayment. But then they offer a repayment out of kindness, not because it is demanded. It's just a detail that stood out as a bit odd.
