You write beautifully, cloflo@cloflo. Thank you for joining us in The Ink Well, and thank you for fixing your image link.

We like to provide tips from time to time to help writers develop their craft. This story is very strong in some of the elements — especially character building, scene setting, and creating a conflict — but it raises questions that are never answered. And that can create frustration for the reader.

We are left wondering if she had some kind of breakdown, and what caused it. Our curiosity is raised about the flashback to her mother holding a bag, but we are never told what it was, or how it plays into the story. Kent appears to be supporting her recovery, but then he undermines her confidence about whether she will be accepted at a new job.

The story is very intriguing! It leaves us wanting more. Our tip for you is to be sure to provide enough information so the reader can fully understand the scenario, and be sure to resolve the conflict one way or another in the end. (It doesn't have to be a happy ending. But the reader does seek closure and a sense of completeness.)

You'll find some great articles in our catalog of fiction writing tips, such as Adding Conflict and Story Arcs.

Good luck and keep writing! We're glad you've joined us, and we look forward to reading more of your stories. Also, thank you for reading and commenting on the work of other community members.
