What are Solar Eclipses? Why do they Happen?

Solar Eclipse is blocking light from the Sun towards Earth, due to the Moon coming between Earth and the Sun. They may be visible to only 1 part of the Earth, or a Bigger part of the Earth depending on the situation.

When the Moon comes in between the Earth and Sun, It needs to be in perfect orientation to blockade the Sun's light, That's one reason we don't see as many solar eclipses as Lunar ones.

The different types of Solar Eclipses

There are mainly 3 types of Solar Eclipses depending on the situation and Place of viewing of the Eclipse

• Partial Solar Eclipse: It happens when the Moon covers a Part of the Sun's light
• Annular Solar Eclipse: It happens when the Moon covers almost all part of the Sun's light, leaving just a Ring, also called the Ring of Fire
• Total Solar Eclipse: It happens when the Moon covers a complete part of the Sun's Light. You can observe the Sun's corona in this type, although they are pretty rare.
