After a few changes to the IECHost client, I was finally able to make it stable to write D64 images back to physical disks.

The disk was also imaged to D64 afterwards and compared to its original copy: again, a 100% match!
There are a couple of things I want to change to improve the process, but the bulk of the work on this feature is now done!
