Splinterlands: Upgrading My Jolius Blast to Level 2, A Great Investment!

From the very first moment I got a lucky jackpot card pull with a Jolius Blast, I knew he needed to be leveled up. I played it at level one with moderate success, but level two it picks up the all important Engrage which I knew was needed to get to the next level of play with the card! So I finally bit the bullet and started shopping daily for a good deals. It took a week or so but I finally got five copies needed to level him up...

Here are his stats, his biggest limitation is his mana. At thirteen, he is a very heavy card and required a very high mana cap to even use him. Recently I have been seeing more and more low mana battles, so finding the right situation has been a challenge. Anyway, at level one he has three melee attack and Void meaning all magic attacks are cut in half. A nice ability to have. However, at level two he picks up Enrage, which mean once not at full health his melee attack and speed increase fifty percent, rounded up. Not a bad ability at all, and a game changer. Level three gets him a little bit more health, and at level four he pick up Retaliate, meaning there is a fifty percent chance he will attack back even if defeated. Pretty dope ability, but an expensive upgrade requiring 25 copies!

Now for the new Modern setup, I really hadn't heard much about it so it was a bit of a shock to me.

Here is where I was currently, however, I didn't have the cards to play in diamond, so I was forced to choose Gold.

I found this rather complicated, but got into the gold only to find that many of my level one cards were no longer playable. Frustrating yes, but it is what it is I suppose. I'll just have to be careful to rent the right level cards next time around! I was also shocked to find out I was starting at the bottom of the division and now have to win my way back up to get the real rewards and SPS earnings. I got through the first division today. I'll try for the next tomorrow!

Now onto the battle with Jolius Blast upgraded!

This was a fun battle, although not too challenging thanks to my recent upgrade!

This screenshot was taken after the buffs are applied but before the action has started. It is a high mana battle in Frontier, with a cap of 84. So just about any combination of cards is possible. The battle rules are Brute Force so units with the highest power attack first, and Maneuvers meaning all melee units have reach and can attack from the second position.

For archon I went with Barthalamus granting one extra speed to all of my units. My tank is Jolius Blast at level two with Enrage, and my secondary tank is Buns The Unseen because of his great shielding. Next up is Ash Archer then Sturdy Axe Warden. To round off the team I put A'lan Musketeer and the taunt card New Beluroc Aegis.

My opponent also went with fire using the same archon. For tank they used New Beluroc Aegis followed by Frankarsgard as secondary tank with reach. Next up was Vengeful Monk followed by the legendary card Agniavan Salamander. To finish off the team they used Sturdy Axe Warden and A'lan Musketeer.

I had a pretty good feeling I would win when I saw the matchup...

By round two their tank is down.

Here you see Jolius Blast with Enrage, melee attack is now five!

Jolius Blast easily takes out the Vengeful Monk.

However, in round three my Jolius Blast is down for the count.

Round four and it's almost over...

Here it is over, just waiting for the kill shot...

And my A'lan Musketeer finishes off the last card. Great game to my opponent. Jolius Blast at level two is a real danger once he becomes enraged after taking some damage. It was an expensive level up, but well worth it in how many matches he has help me win in Frontier and Modern.

I usually like the share some pack openings, but haven't hard any good ones lately. Maybe next time...
