I don't even recall what year it was, but Al Qaeda attacked a bunch of tourists at the pyramids themselves gunning down a lot of innocent people down. Ever since then the security has become much tighter, but at the time I was sill part of the US Army. Travel to Egypt was banned for us after that, so I never had a chance to reschedule.

It's like any middle eastern country (even though it's in Africa), you have to be careful. Many people are very kind but there are also those that would do you harm. I spent enough time in Iraq to get to know the culture well!
