This season on Splinterlands has really been quite the experience with the new reward system. In the beginning there was a lot of question about the changes and there still is. I played a little bit before last season ended and got to open 5 chests which got me some credits and two cards including a legendary. I was ok with that because it was my first season but I really didn't know what to expect from this season being a total newbie then. I didn't know whether I would prefer the new system or totally hate it. Well, after playing for more than a week, I have to say that this new system is really awesome for newbies.
The replacement of the quests with a daily focus has really made this game fun and addictive. Not just that but it can really help new players learn to build effective decks for each element. I know the prices of some cards are really high but renting them can be really cheap. After buying a spellbook with the new system, you get $3 back in credits. These credits can be go a very long way in the rental market.
When I started out this season, I got an Earth focus. I didn't have credits because I used them to buy a Chaos Legion pack so I bought over 7000 DEC for about $8. After watching some videos on YouTube I headed over to the rental market and rented just 8 really neat cards. With those 8 cards, I was able to totally dominate the Bronze league and quickly move up to Silver III.
I was able to learn some strategies and formations for the Earth Splinter. And what did it cost me? Exactly 137.838 DEC or 13 cents. It's crazy!
Ever since then I've been making good use of the rental market. Today, I spent a little over $1 on the entire Life deck for the Silver League and it's been really thrilling.
I am currently in Silver I. I have already earned 20 chests for today and 54 season chests. I'm kinda slow because of my tight schedule but I really plan to earn at least 100 season chests. I'm still taking things slow because I still have a lot to earn.
Apparently new players could earn with Starter cards in the past after getting a spellbook but not anymore. You might think that it's not fair that you get to earn nothing after spending $10 on a spellbook but there's a way forward. Earlier I mentioned that you now get 3000 credits back after purchasing a spellbook. Well, those credits can really help you get some awesome cards in the rental market for your deck. For example, the level 3 Evangelist card below costs almost $42.
I don't have $42 right now to spend on this card so I went over to the rental market and got it for 6.667 DEC.
At the current price of DEC, it would cost you roughly the same amount in credits to get this card for a day. 1000 credits is equal to $1. So 6.7 credits would be 6.7/1000 dollars. This is $0.0067 to use this card for a day!
You can get a lot of other good cards for your strategy and start earning DEC rewards ultimately getting the cards to pay for themselves. If you're really lucky you can make a lot more from your chests at the end of the day. Everybody wins!
I didn't get the chance to earn with starter cards but it doesn't feel that much of a bummer ever since I began to rent.
Another reason renting is great is the virtually free power you get from the cards. If you want to advance to higher leagues, you need power to do so and power comes from the level of cards you have. The cards I own aren't even enough to take me to Bronze II but after renting the entire life deck, I have over 160k power which is enough to take me to Gold II. All I need now is the rating.
So if you really want to play in higher leagues and you can't afford to buy the cards for the power, then renting is the way to go for you. With the new system I recommend advancing to higher leagues because you earn Focus Points faster. Back in bronze, I had to play like 2 or 3 battles to get one chest but in silver just one win gets me 4 chests. Again, it's crazy!
Now, before you go spending in the rental market, you need to know the summoner limits based on rarity that you can use for the leagues. You can do that by checking the details for the leagues. Below is for the silver league.
I got serious with Splinterlands about 5 weeks ago. I'm still very new but I believe I have made a lot of progress. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't play the game or do some research on how to get better. I would really advise newbies to be openminded when playing splinterlands. Anyone that is willing to learn can grow really fast in this game. I mean, look at me, five weeks ago I couldn't build a good team but now I have different strategies that I use for different rulesets and situations.
With the developments on splinterlands, I really don't see why anyone should be using starter cards. If you've gotten the spellbook and want to earn, then leverage the power of the rental market. You will get really good cards that will help you breeze through novice and bronze. You will also learn many strategies with all the splinters and get some clues on cards you'd love to own. I've currently played with life, earth, water and earth splinters on the daily focus and I have gained some knowledge on how to use these elements. I've also been making a list of cards that I want to own and I'm working on getting them. So yes, the rental market is your friend.
Check out this battle. My opponent used starter cards and did not stand a chance👇.
