The beauty of being observant.
There are buildings you notice, and then there are buildings that make you stop for a moment.
I think this mosque did the latter for me.
I took this photograph because I liked the contrast in the scene. The building has such a strong physical presence, and it's yet there is something very quiet about it. It stands there without asking for attention.
Looking at the photograph afterwards, I started noticing things I probably would have overlooked in the moment. The geometry of the building. The empty spaces. The way the light falls across certain parts while leaving others in shadow.
It also made me think about all the different people who might look at the same building and see something completely different.
Someone might be there to pray. Someone else might simply be passing by. A child might be seeing it for the first time, while another person may have walked past it so many times that they barely notice it anymore.
The building has not changed.
Only the person looking at it has.
Maybe that is one of the things I like about photography. You can take something that already exists and, for a brief moment, make people see it from where you were standing.
This was simply what I saw.
