I've really fallen in love with @dbuzz and have begun spending a lot of time there. I've also decidded to spend a lot more time on the Hive blockchain. I'm getting disgusted by censorship in mainstream social media now and I've decided it's almost hypocritical for me to spend so much time on Twitter when my time would probably be better spent focused on the great community of Hive and supporting a platform that supports free speech.
With that said I've spent much more time on d.buzz and messing around in my following feed here on peakd.com ... Honestly, not only do I feel great about posting on a platform that supports free speech, I also love the interactions with other community members and all the new people I'm meeting. I've met a lot of new folks since we left that "other blockchain"
This now creates an entirely new set of problems for me. Unlike Twitter, it's not a great idea to upvote or "like" every comment, post and interaction. Believe me, I really want to but you just can't. Each vote takes a little more voting power away. which I'm pretty sure also affects your rewards if I understand it correctly. So it's in your best interest to keep your voting power at a reasonable rate and also gives you the best bang for your buck with any upvoting you do.
This voting problem has really gotten out of control since I started using dbuzz too. So, I asked my buddies on dbuzz if they had a strategy for voting power.

To my surprise most people said they did not use any type of strategy. A few people I've talked to even went so far as to say their votes weren't worth much anyway so they just vote away and show support to everyone.
I love that idea but it seems wasteful. Even though my vote at full power is only worth about 2 cents, I love contributing my 2 cents to posts I like. The downside to this is after four or five or ten votes my voting power has decreased significantly and my 2 cents has now dwindled down a lot and is maybe worth a penny or .0015 cents now.
My concern isn't so much with my rewards but how to fairly distribute my little bit of wealth around to the content creators I enjoy and also support the posts that I find entertaining. By upvoting everyone with 100% votes you're really not giving out 100% votes because each vote decreases your voting power. For instance here's a screenshot of my voting just before I went to bed the other night.
At this point even though I'm giving a 100% upvote, the receiver is only getting the benefit of an actual 77.8% upvote. So only your first vote of the day get a full 100% upvote.
So I've decided on this strategy to fairly distribute my small amount wealth around our little corner of the HiveBlockchain.
For people I interact with all the time 75% - 100% upvote.
d.buzz microblog posts 50% upvotes
For content I absolutely love 75% - 100% upvote.
For posts I'm reading from people I don't follow at least 50% upvote.
For strangers outside of my follower feed as I explore the Hive blockchain 25% upvote.
Using this strategy I can distribute my voting power more fairly and spread my votes further than just upvoting everyone with a 100% vote.
Now to optimize my voting power for best results I try to vote on content in the morning when I wake up after my account has had all night to recharge. If I can keep my account around 85% - 90% voting power throughout the day I can usually wake up fully charged the following morning. So I do watch my voting power throughout the day.
After the morning round of votes I try to take a break throughout the day till just before dinner to give my account some time to charge. Then again go through my feed and vote on the posts I like.
I'll take another break till just before bed. For me that's usually around 12:30 or 1 AM. As I complete my nightly Splinterland's quest I'll check out more content and vote, then share my Quest rewards on d.buzz before going to bed. This gives my account time to power up again and then I start the whole thing over again the following morning.
The last part of my strategy is about upvoting comments. I haven't been for awhile because someone got really mad at me one day about giving each comment a small 2% or 3% vote. They claimed those votes wasted resources from the rewards pool. In this case it's not about the vote reward but about acknowledging the comment... Giving them a "Like" if you will.
I'm returning to that. I get so many great comments from people on d.buzz and peakd.com and I need to start doing it again. For comments that I don't reply too but liked, they get a tiny upvote as an acknowledgment that I read the reply. A simple courtesy of an acknowledgement vote.
So maybe I've put to much thought into this whole voting business, but I think having a strategy like this helps me to more fairly distribute what I can in rewards to the people I follow and the content I love. Even if it's only a penny or .005 cents it all adds up with the other votes already received. By taking charge of our voting power and trying to spread the wealth as far as possible it's just one more thing we can each do to support one another and make sure everyone gets rewarded for their efforts.
Someday I'll be a whale, and my vote will carry with it a lot of weight and value. Till that day, I'm just trying to spread the wealth out as far as it can go for the benefit of everyone I support.
If you read all this.. thank you. Hopefully it made sense. Do you use a voting strategy to try to optimize the spread of your rewards or do you just 100% upvote everyone you come in contact with? I'd love to read your strategy if you have one!
