This post was originally going to be about my Independence Day Weekend. Surprisingly though, I didn't take a single picture. The reason, I decided to leave my phone alone over the weekend and just enjoy the company of family and friends. In total I think I spent less than a few hours on social media all weekend. For the most part, I checked my Twitter and Hive comments in the morning when I woke up, did a few Tweets in the afternoon, answered a few Tweets at night before bed.
Recently, I've been questioning the amount of time I spend on social media and the actual value I recieve from it as far as entertainment, happiness and knowledge. That's a post for another day, but Fourth of July weekend was much more enjoyable, focusing on the holiday and NOT focusing on sharing everything online.
The only downside was, I didn't snap one picture with my phone! I'll have to be more mindful about this in the future. The upside was I focused more on family and friends and felt much more attentive and in the moment.
Friday and Saturday was spent preparing for family to come over. Did shopping, stocked the bar, prepped food. The usual. Food consisted of potato salad, macaroni salad, several different types of sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers. I did snap a picture of my beer and posted it to Twitter because I splurged and got one of my favorites.
I enjoyed these even more not looking at my phone every ten minutes ๐คฃ
As many of you know, I've cut back on drinking alcohol immensely. These were the first drinks I've had in awhile. I had a couple beers Friday evening, a couple more Saturday, and way to many to count on Sunday. I stuck with mainly beer and Vodka!
We had our holiday party on Sunday. Celebrating with food, beer, drink, and fireworks. I used my phone for music and plugged it into the stereo in the garage. Another reason I didn't get a lot of pictures. I'm a little bummed about the pictures. I'll have to do something about this next time. I may start using my generic GoPro for holidays as it fits in my pocket and isn't an inconvenience to carry around.
To pass the time Sunday, I got involved in a game called "corn hole". Wouldn't be my first choice for the name ๐ My cousin brought it over, it consists of a couple boards with holes in it and you toss bean bags into the wholes. It's similar to horseshoes in scoring and play. It was actually a lot of fun and I may have to pick up a set now!

My cousins were designed with the Buffalo Bills logo. She's a huge fan and often tailgates before the game!
So for the most part it was a really nice weekend. We had perfect weather, great food, lots of drink and fun was had by all. It was really nice not focusing on social media and just enjoying the moment with family and friends. I want to start doing this more now. I've even begun leaving my phone at home when I go out. I'll post more about this in the future.
Did you celebrate the Fourth of July? What was your celebration like?
