Today makes three-in-a-row, by the way.
The Value of Connections
I wish I had some anecdote that would perfectly spin up the significance of a connection. I began reading The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, who I always seem to call Norman, thanks to @felixxx.
He made a point about $HIVE, but in recent months, I used Gladwell's insights to teach about what made $TURBO catch flame in terms of virality. @kryptik had every right to be skeptical about the project; Turbo Toad Token doesn't necessarily do anything differently in terms of use case, product or service.
Yet, Rhett Mankind, the creator of the token was interviewed by The Block, Fortune Crypto and many more aspiring storytellers and journalists. One of the community members even won $1000 in a writing contest, as she detailed the story.
Why?
I won't reiterate Gladwell's book poorly, but if I had to venture a guess, it would boil down to connections.
Rhett's story made a connection to many people feeling stymied, unable to share their work or wares. The leverage of AI made a connection to the current narrative surrounding AI. The crypto community on Twitter made connections; a group of 50 people chose to help seed the project when Rhett was initially front ran by bots.
These unique tales of collaboration lead me to my thought today.
Can Metrics Measure Connections
I put together some formulas and through information augmentation, I made sense of the thinking behind them.
The formula for the network effect is n^2, where n is the number of users in a network. It communicates effectively that the connections are exponential following an increase in users.
I figured, that there must be some dollar amount for each connection then, and chose the market capitalization as a metric for the value of the entire network.
Finally, we arrive at the interesting idea-
What if we could measure how many connections a dollar creates in a network? From there, we might extrapolate what an increase in valuation might do to the community. We could hypothesize about the significance and necessity of venture capital investments.
Furthermore, we might understand the relative strength and capital efficiency of a network. If a network had a lot of connections per dollar, it could be that value goes further there. On the other hand, if a network had less connections per dollar, it might be underutilized, or otherwise capable of growth.
Proof of Brain
I am not really certain what to make of the metric, Connections per Dollar, I'm calling it. I very well could have made something that alright exists or is calculated by a different, more precise formula. I could also have misinterpreted what the calculation truly means, with respect to users and dollar value. Perhaps, there isn't a correlation to the number of users and dollar value of your platform.
In any event, I've found every connection I've made in web3 to be priceless. Even the connections associated with losses, those taught me more than any appreciation of my assets could ever. Knowledge is the secret, in any endeavor.
