Hello everyone šŸ¤— it’s been a minute since I wrote here but let me give you a quick rundown of how my weekend went 🄳

Back in school, my friends and I used to plan birthday surprises and Valentine packages for people just for fun. We help people plan surprises, they give us money and we get the things needed to execute the job any balance that remains becomes ours. At some point we said, "Wait o, why are we doing this for free?" So we decided to make it official. We took trainings on event planning, put structure to it, and launched our brand; D’Pearls Event Hub aka DPEH and we officially turned three years. We are four friends, we majored in different areas of event planning and I became the Project Manager and Vendors Coordinator. Since then we've been planning weddings. But you know how businesses can be at the early stage; we planned events for acquaintances in the early stage, some were voluntary services.

Last weekend, we planned an event for someone that found us on instagram without any form of referral or stuff like that. It meant a lot to us because it was evidence that we’re seen, people go through our page even if we’re not doing much numbers in terms of followership but we kept posting till we landed our first job from instagram. No personal connection, just trust from social media and this means the pressure was doubled. Because we didn’t want our client to say ā€œhad I knownā€ lol. So we put in extra work like we’ve never done before. Not because in the past we offered mediocre service but because we’ve learnt from our previous mistakes and we want to make a very good impression to our first time client. At least, with the kind of vendors we used, we believe we will gain more visibility afterwards.

After intensive planning for a month, The wedding happened yesterday in Portharcourt, Nigeria. Plot twist: I'm in Asaba and due to my work and the distance, I wasn't physically there so I coordinated the vendors remotely. Although, my colleagues were on ground live, and I was online coordinating everything — vendors check-in, call times, ushers deployment, giving feedback in real-time from my phone.

IMG_0776.jpegWe offered our ushering services too. Our ushers showed up well-dressed, sharp, professional.

Was everything 100% as planned? This is Nigerian wedding o. Chaos must show small. But it ran smoothly overall. Vendors came on time, program flowed, and most importantly our clients were happy šŸ’ƒ
Initially, I was so skeptical about not being present but I said let me imagine I wasn’t in the country lol. And boy! I’m glad I didn’t stress over being physically present because without me there, my team did so well. Coordinating remotely also taught me something; you don't always have to be physically present to lead effectively, if you have a solid team and clear communication.
I'm proud of us. From planning surprises in school to coordinating full weddings for strangers. Growth is beautiful I must say.

Thanks for reading to the end and just incase you need an event coordinator or planner, remember to reach out to me šŸ„°šŸ¤—
