I love celebrating my birthday. It’s the day the world got this goodness called me. I know I’m not perfect but, for every life I’ve met even if the friendship didn’t end well you cannot say I wasn’t a good person at some point, or that I wasn’t impactful while I was in your life. I use my birthday as a means of thanksgiving to God specially. When I think of the story surrounding my birth, I just say “against all odds, I am worth it!” I’m always grateful to God on that day, and I celebrate no matter how little.
Growing up, my birthdays were always in school — nursery, primary school, all celebrated with classmates. Then in secondary school, my birthday fell during midterm break, so I’d celebrate at home. Not big parties, but something special no matter how small, my mum made sure of that. I remember celebrating my 10th and 15th birthday. Had my friends from church and school come around and it was big 🤭
In university, for my 18th and 20th birthdays, my friends surprised me with gifts and a mini celebration. It was really, really fun. I loved being loved on that day. I love how people are thoughtful, even some people I didn’t think would remember actually remembered and they celebrate with me. These things make me love my birthday.
Now adulthood is here, and birthdays feel like normal days. But I still feel the nudge to be grateful to God, to get myself a gift, no matter how small. Since after uni, since after my 20th birthday, I stopped doing big things. I stay indoors, but I make sure I buy gifts for myself with the cash gift people give me on my birthday. That way it’s significant. That money becomes a memory 🥰
For people’s birthdays, I go all out. I’ve promised a lot of people gifts, and even if money doesn’t come, I still show up. No matter how little. I love celebrating others because if the tables were reversed, I’d want to be celebrated too.
Same energy for theirs as I give for mine especially for family and close friends.
For my next birthday, I want to gift myself all through my birth month; February 😂🤭 then on the weekend of my birthday, I’ll do a weekend getaway with my girls 😍 and have fun intentionally. I also do not want to work on my birthday next year because I worked this year and wasn’t happy 😭 One other thing that I’d love to do even if it’s not next year is to get an animated documentary about myself. And on one of my birthdays, I’ll play it with friends and family watching like a movie bought kinda thing 😂❤️ don’t worry, my life isn’t boring so they’ll be in for a treat 🥰
Thank you to @irenenavarroart for this prompt. This is one prompt I wrote and smiled and giggled while at it. I remembered my previous birthdays, i imagined my next birthday and there’s this joy within 😁
And to you that made it till the end, thanks for reading! I have chilled water for you 🤭
