🇪🇸 ~ Descoser tiene la fama de ser una de las actividades menos queridas del mundo de la costura, hay chistes sobre eso en algunos trends que parodian errores frecuentes en la dirección que unes 2 piezas.
Descoser es poco querido porque cuando toca, significa un error que se paga caro en tiempo y pone en peligro la integridad de las telas, por no decir el proyecto entero, porque el descosedor es un efectivo bisturí en forma de garfio, solo que tamaño Barbie, y por eso ocurren accidentes, porque lo subestiman.

🇺🇸 ~ Unpicking has a reputation for being one of the least favorite activities in the world of sewing; there are jokes about it in some trends that parody common mistakes in how you join two pieces together.Unpicking is unpopular because when it comes up, it means a mistake that costs a lot of time and jeopardizes the integrity of the fabric—not to mention the entire project—because the seam ripper is essentially a hook-shaped scalpel, only in Barbie size, and that’s why accidents happen: people underestimate it.
Pero una cosa es descoser por obligación y otra por expectativa: Descocer pensando en las posibilidades.
Para mi descoser se convirtió hace años en un ejercicio de paciencia y cuidado, y la verdad es que sí te refina el juego de las manos, cosa que agradezco. Hoy descoser me entretiene tanto como coser.

But it’s one thing to unpick out of necessity and another to do so out of curiosity: Unpicking while thinking about the possibilities. For me, unpicking became an exercise in patience and care years ago, and the truth is that it really does refine your dexterity, which I appreciate. Today, unpicking entertains me just as much as sewing does.
A lo largo del año estuve guardando en una caja grande una cantidad considerable de pantalones denim pensando en descoserlos.
Son de esas prendas que se han roto por el uso justo en ángulos difíciles de reparar, porque si tuvieran arreglo, prefiero repararlos y regalárselos a alguien que los necesite.
Algunos son o fueron míos y otros son regalo de amigos y vecinos que saben que me gusta aprovechar este material para proyectos creativos.
Throughout the year, I’ve been saving a considerable number of pairs of jeans in a large box, planning to take them apart.
They’re the kind of clothes that have torn from wear and tear in places that are hard to repair—because if they could be fixed, I’d rather mend them and give them to someone who needs them.
Some are or were mine, and others are gifts from friends and neighbors who know I like to repurpose this material for creative projects.
Desarmar un pantalón denim para aprovechar su material tiene dos formas de hacerse, la rápida con tijeras, y la otra es descosiendo las costuras como si estuvieras deconstruyéndolo.
A mi me gusta esta segunda forma porque te da centímetros extra de material que pierdes en la opción uno, y también porque hay partes que para ser bien utilizadas necesitan ser descocidas y no cortadas (como los bolsillos y las pretinas).
Toma tiempo, no es un proceso veloz, por eso esta actividad me ha caído de maravilla cuando cae la tarde y no hay electricidad, cuando hace demasiado calor para salir o hacer cualquier otra cosa mental o físicamente mas exigente.
There are two ways to take apart a pair of jeans to reuse the fabric: the quick way with scissors, and the other is by unpicking the seams as if you were deconstructing them.
I prefer the second method because it gives you extra centimeters of fabric that you’d lose with the first option, and also because there are parts that need to be unstitched—not cut—to be put to good use (like the pockets and waistbands).
It takes time—it’s not a quick process—which is why this activity has been perfect for me when evening falls and the power is out, or when it’s too hot to go outside or do anything else that’s more mentally or physically demanding.
La tarea repetitiva de descoser estos días me ha ayudado a mantener mi atención enfocada y la mente relajada, este proyecto es de esas cosas a la espera del día perfecto para ser abordadas, porque en cualquier otra circunstancia no se sentiría igual.
No es una tarea trascendental, artística o glamorosa, pero es necesaria para quienes nos gustan los proyectos de reciclaje, porque incluso si se trata de un material de segunda mano, hay que tratarlo con cariño para que llegue al proyecto final en el mejor estado posible.

The repetitive task of unpicking these days has helped me stay focused and keep my mind relaxed. This project is one of those things that’s waiting for the perfect day to be tackled, because under any other circumstances, it wouldn’t feel the same.It’s not a momentous, artistic, or glamorous task, but it’s necessary for those of us who enjoy upcycling projects, because even when working with secondhand materials, you have to treat them with care so they reach the final project in the best possible condition.
En notas anteriores ya he hablado de lo mucho que me gusta la etapa de la recolección y preparación de los materiales para mis proyectos, pero esta es la primera vez que desarmo un volumen grande de prendas en una sola sesión.
Todavía no he decidido al 100% qué hare con este y el resto de tela denim que he estado recolectando desde hace mucho tiempo; originalmente pensaba en hacer cosas muy pequeñas pero por la naturaleza tan noble y resistente del denim quiero esforzarme en al menos intentar hacer cosas utilitarias, para que tengan auténticamente "una segunda oportunidad".

In previous posts, I’ve already talked about how much I enjoy the process of gathering and preparing materials for my projects, but this is the first time I’ve taken apart a large number of garments in a single session.I haven’t quite decided yet what I’ll do with this and the rest of the denim fabric I’ve been collecting for a long time; originally, I was thinking of making very small items, but given denim’s sturdy and durable nature, I want to make an effort to at least try making practical items, so they can truly have “a second chance.”
