A few weeks ago a neighbor asked me for help for her 7 year old son's end of course project ๐ ๐
The project consisted of an exhibition about a marine animal, in this case the shark; the exhibition was to be accompanied with some elements allusive to the animal, such as a poster, decorative items, and small gifts made with recycled material.
So this is a tutorial on how to make pencils with a shark motif with basic materials, I assure you that the result is not only pretty but functional โจ ๐ฆ ๐

โฆ El primer paso es conseguir 5 rollos iguales de cartรณn, los del papel toilet estarรกn bien.
โฆ Si no tenemos de este tipo, los de toallรญn desechable de cocina funcionan bien, solo debemos cortarlos para obtener tubos del mismo tamaรฑo.
โฆ Despuรฉs, cortaremos 5 cuadrados de cartรณn (medidas 10 x 10 cm) de cualquier caja que podamos reciclar en casa.
โฆ The first step is to get 5 equal cardboard rolls, toilet paper rolls will be fine.
โฆ If we don't have this type, disposable kitchen towel rolls work well, we just need to cut them to get tubes of the same size.

โฆ The next step is to draw the guide lines for the mouth of each "shark" on each of the cardboard rolls.
โฆ To make it look super nice and symmetrical, replicate the measurements of the cardboard rolls on a piece of paper.
โฆ Next, we will mark half of its lengthwise dimension, then mark the middle between those two sections and make an inverse triangle of 4 cm x 4.5 cm. Cut out that triangle.
โฆ We will cut out that triangle, and we will have our paper mold for the shark mouths.
โฆ I recommend that the marks be made with a pencil gently, before cutting with a sharp scissors, so we mistreat the cardboard rolls as little as possible.
โฆ En esta etapa, pintaremos cada rollo con el color azul de nuestra preferencia, yo utilice pintura acrรญlica "Oro Color" (azul marino); con dos capas bastara para un genial acabado.
โฆ Para las aletas de cada "tiburรณn", usaremos los triรกngulos de cartรณn restantes de cuando recortamos las bocas. Solo debemos redondear uno de sus extremos y aplanarlos un poco.
โฆ Con ayuda de un exacto o cuchillo fino, haremos un corte en cada rollo, un poco mas hacia el frente de las bocas, y no exactamente en su centro, solo del largo necesario para introducir las aletas en cada pieza.
โฆ Agregaremos un poco de pegamento, y dejaremos secar en una posiciรณn recta, para que las aletas no queden torcidas.
โฆ Cuando las aletas estรฉn secas y ya no se muevan, las pintaremos tambiรฉn.
โฆ At this stage, we will paint each roll with the blue color of our preference, I used "Oro Color" (navy blue) acrylic paint; two coats will be enough for a great finish.
โฆ For the fins of each "shark", we will use the cardboard triangles left over from when we cut out the mouths, we only need to round one of their ends and flatten them a little.
โฆ With the help of an exacto or thin knife, we will make a cut in each roll, a little more towards the front of the mouths, and not exactly in its center, only the length necessary to introduce the fins in each piece.
โฆ We will add a little glue, and let dry in a straight position, so that the fins are not twisted.
โฆ When the fins are dry and no longer move, we will also paint them.

โฆEl diseรฑo de los ojos es a elecciรณn personal, yo escogรญ un estilo pequeรฑo, gracioso con brillos.
โฆ Para la base de cada lapicero, forraremos los cuadrados de cartulina que recortamos y reservamos previamente, con foami color gris.
โฆ La cartulina es buena opciรณn, pero el foami siento que es mejor en estos casos porque da un aspecto mas voluminoso y texturizado en contraste a los cuerpos de los tiburones.
โฆ When you feel them fixed in place, we will paint them very carefully with white acrylic paint.
โฆ The design of the eyes is a personal choice, I chose a small, funny style with glitter.
โฆ For the base of each pencil, we will line the cardboard squares that we previously cut out and set aside, with gray foami.
โฆ Cardboard is a good option, but I feel that foami is better in these cases because it gives a more voluminous and textured look in contrast to the sharks' bodies.
