This steel mill was originally built for Canadian Drawn Steel Inc in the 1960s. Then after that company went out of business, the property was passed through several companies until landing the in the hands of Republic Steel.
Republic Steel, cut and shaped coiled steel into parts for the automotive and other industries. Until they moved operations to Ohio, leaving this building abandoned in 2018.
I have been watching and waiting to explore this one since 2018, but have never been able to. It has always had on site security, cameras and motion censors. It was very clearly being looked after! Until now, I was in the area the other day and checked it out. There was no security, no more cameras and many holes had been cut in the fence (that is when I took the drone photos above).
I immediately messaged a couple friends who have also been hoping to check it out and we went back that night.
The long wait was more than worth what we walked into!
