I do find it interesting that people fear credit cards while they embrace debit cards. If someone steals your debit card they have access to all the money in the account--provided they have your PIN #. Personally I'm far more worried about my debit cards here in Canada because I keep much more money in my bank account than I have credit on my credit card.
I have many credit cards but typically I call the issuer to make sure my limit is under $1000 HBD and my main card for small purchases only has a $150 HBD limit. My main bank account has a requirement to hold $4000 HBD in it (long story). If someone stole my credit card and charged up $150 I'd be sad...but in Canada we have a $35 HBD max liability for theft. If someone steals the card and I report it stolen I am not responsible for more than $35 HBD loss and most of my cards have liability insurance so I'd be responsible for nothing.
If someone stole a debit card to my main account. I'd lose $4000 HBD and there is no liability insurance and I'd lose the entire amount.
In short terms: In Canada Credit cards are much safer than Debit cards.....when used properly.
Forgetting the interest is a huge problem for many (most?) Canadians. Paying interest is typically a really bad idea but so many people fall for it and end up paying way too much.
Thanks for the response.
Appreciate the effort and I've asked #hivepakistan to curate. Thanks to them too :)
