One of the nice things about Hive is that a user can post anything they wish without censorship. There are only gas fees to pay and anyone can post on Hive.
However, if you ask anyone who has been on Hive for any length of time and they will tell you there are rules on what you can and cannot post. Some of the rules are spelled out and others are just by convention. One thing is for certain: If you anger the community then downvotes can cost you rewards and reputation. Yes you can post anything using only resource credits but that doesn't mean those words are free.
That also holds true in real life.
I can say anything I wish to my wife. Unkind words will cost me. Lies will cost me. Answering the question "Do these pants make my ass look big" will cost me. When dealing with my sons? They have questions and I try to give good answers. A proper answer can help my children grow, a flippant or poor answer can hurt my relationship. Hurtful words spoken? Words spoken in anger? They will absolutely cost me in the long run.
Watching TV? Jimmy Kimmel said something in a comedy monologue and it almost cost him his job. Look at some YouTubers who poorly choose their words and they can be one flamestorm away from being cancelled. In Canada the government has made the Bible dangerous as parts of it have been determined to be hate speech. Speaking from my holy book can have consequences.
Free Speech Is a nice idea but in real life words have consequences. They can build and and tear down. They can build relationships or kill them. They can make financial deals or destroy them. Words aren't free, they have a cost.
Now my nephew loves doing graffiti when he was younger. He was actually quite good at it and actually got into a lot of trouble with it. He wanted to express himself and his opinion on public land or stoves and walls around the city. Now if it was his wall that might be acceptable but the problem is that public space belongs to everyone and not just one individual.
Personally when I walk around the park I love seeing nature. On occasion I will see chalk drawings on the sidewalk. Sometimes with nice sayings and sometimes not so nice. Sometimes I will see memorials, decorations or other things there. Every time I see it I am a little sad because for me it detracts from the beauty of the park. One person's expression affects everyone else's view. There is another person who puts on headphones and walks around town singing very badly and very loudly. It is his form of self expression but it is quite uncomfortable for everyone nearby.

I wish I could say that there is freedom of expression but honestly that needs to be balanced with keeping the peace and public cohesion. People all have to live on this planet together, ideally peacefully. Choosing words wisely, choosing self expression wisely, and thinking of the group instead of the individual goes a long ways.
Or perhaps another way to think about it: If you have a million people all shouting as loud as they can to get their opinion heard you end up with a cacophony where no-one gets to hear anything. To learn? Listen. Have respectful discourse. Allow people to say their peace and then consider and rebut them so there can be mutual learning. There is absolutely a place for public expression and a place to speak freely.
But in my opinion it is not everywhere and anywhere
