A day at the hospital and a new most embarrassing way to potentially die. My Actifit Report Card: May 25 2026
Let me start by saying... I didn't die today. Just clarifying in case the fact I'm posting didn't make that clear. However I felt like something was seriously wrong with me in the morning.
Any day that starts with walking your wife up at 6am to go to the hospital isn't ideal. Yet that is just what happened today.
That's me feeling like death warmed over and got a few hours I got to see this.
Not the ideal day on vacation at all. I cancelled my booking in Edinburgh for tomorrow, wondered if I was going to be able to fly home and had to contact the travel insurance people.
Crappy start to the day.
Honestly though it could have been much much worse. I only waited in the ER for 15 minutes before being given a bed. Well first having my BP taken when I was ready to curl up in a fetal position on the hospital floor from pain but they did give me two pain killers first.
I saw a doctor within 45 minutes which was good. Then saw a urologist within 5 hours.
It seems my problem fell into the well documented, severe, treat immediately variety and often emergency surgery.
Did I mention this morning sucked
Now I'll let you know that while surgery is often required, on some occasions or spontaneously goes away. That was me a few hours of excruciating pain and then... Oh, I'm better now. Sheesh.
What did I have? In layman's terms I had a heart attack... Of the balls. The pain? Having a testicle or into a vice for a few hours. Real name "testicular torsion" which is basically the blood supply being cut off so the poor ball starts dying. Treat within 6 hours or get amputated.
Honestly it now takes over the #1 spot on my "most embarrassing ways to die". Seriously a fatal version of kicked in the nuts... Who would believe that?
Anyways. The pain went from "kill me now" to "oh, I'm cured" and shortly after I was sent to walk back to the hotel. Nice walk actually.
But I took things really easy for the rest of the day. Yes I made 6K steps which was seriously in doubt first thing in the morning but I guess the moral is
All is well that ends well that ends well
Or possibly
Life can change in just a moment
So protect your health, get your steps and enjoy every moment...
.... Although moments in pain lying in a hospital waiting room area on a public bench.. those are genuinely hard to enjoy..
