Battling Drought and Brown lawns. My Actifit Report Card: August 6 2023
As always I started the day by walking the dog and getting my morning steps in.
two things struck me as I started my walk.
The first was that my neighhbor had put out his garbage cans on a Sunday (no pickup) on a long weekend (no pickup until at least Tuesday). That struck me as a little weird. Then I looked again and noticed that the lawns on the street were brown.
I mean look at this patch of "grass" in the park. Doesn't really look much like grass any more. Green grass is nice to see for sure. However, as the world heats up and water dries up using all that water to keep the grass green becomes a misuse of water.
Which is why on my rural property I have no plans to plant grass.
Instead my goal is clover.
I took that image in the same park as the brown grass. The clover is still green even though it hasn't been watered. Better still it has flowers for the bees and its a legume so it enriches the soil as it grown. Seeing its green made me smile and think I'll be making the right decision when I plant it.
After that the dog kept on walking until my least favorite house on the walk.
At this house the owners leave their pitbul and rotweiler on the porch. They see my dog and start barking like mad dogs. My dog barks back and really wants to play with them.
I hate a bark fest at 7am.
After that it was a really quiet day. Not so proud of myself for doing nothing but my vacation is almost over and I just couldn't motivate myself to be productive.
Yes, I spent forever on the phone to try and get my internet working (I had a new carrier install DSL).
Yes, I spent a few hours canning applesauce. I think my wife and I picked far too many apples :(
Yes, I did some house chores. However, mostly I just lounged around the house.
Which meant that in the evening I had to take my dog on a longer than expected walk to get my 10k steps in for the day.
It was actually a very quiet walk as most people seem to have left the city for the long weekend.
Or so I thought until I reached the dock at Mill Lake Park.
Lots of people in and around the dock. A few were even fishing.
Overall I'm glad I got my steps. I'm glad I got out of the house a couple of times. Glad I didn't have to work.
Not so glad I was pretty lazy.
But tomorrow is another day.
Thanks for reading.
