Well folks this one may sound strange, but it is actually a more simple process than it seems!
To make fire from ice it would be nice to have these things:
- Some sort of cutting tool to make it quicker
- a pair of gloves to keep your hands dry and warm
- a nice sized ice chunk (about palm sized and maybe atleast an inch thick minimum)
- fire material (tinder and fuel wood)
To complete this task you will simply need to carve your chunk of ice into a lens shape(circular and flat). This make take a bit of time so this is why a recommend some sort of carving tool. From this point it is the same process as starting a fire with a magnifying glass. The smaller the bead of light you make, the hotter it will be and therefore make it easier to ignite your tinder. Make sure you get your lens nice and clear so that the light may pass through it. Keep in mind, no sunlight means no Ice Fire. :(
So I don't have the luxury of having too much ice around me here in Nevada, but for those of you who do here is something to think about. If you're really in a jam and you need to get warm; use that cold stuff to get warm! And remember everybody, it's summer so stay hydrated and stay cool!! :)
