My journey as a freelancer has been an incredible and beautiful experience, and I’ve also learned so much along the way. When I first started freelancing in February 2014, I believe one day I’d be able to share my story whether sweet or something else. I started with zero experience, and I was ready to learn from experts in the business. While I surf the web day after day, I’ll find several courses, videos, and online groups but at first, I was skeptical of what to take and follow.
Having bought an online course that turns out to be fluff and a waste of time, I took a decision never to buy a course online anymore, Not to finally conclude that I wouldn’t get top-notch courses that would change my life but, I didn’t know how long it would take me. As a young undergraduate looking for extra cash to cover my expenses, I didn’t have enough to buy more online courses. So I started with the little experience at my disposal.
My first freelance projects were in March 2014, when I started helping website owners build backlinks to their websites for as low as $5. The service was so terrible and time-consuming and having failed to establish myself in the niche and could barely earn a substantial income for myself, I quit. I was overwhelmed. However, I didn’t want to leave freelancing so; I thought I could try something new.
A few weeks later, I thought I had found a better job in freelancing. This time, it’s a social media service. It involves posting ads on social medias like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Oh! Not even better, this brought me more headaches. From joining hundreds of groups, violating social media rules to Facebook jail. At this point, I lost it all and back to square zero. I Lost my friends, customers, and time. I became devastated and thought freelancing wasn’t for me, so my conclusion was to quit freelancing for something better and result-driven.
Having regained my strength back, I began to search the web for better opportunities, and my ultimate goal was to find the quickest way to make money online. I started reading blogs, watching YouTube videos and hop into emails. Unfortunately, I only saw opportunities that were too expensive and risky to try out.
One fateful afternoon, I stumbled upon a group on Facebook. Behold! It’s freelancer’s group, I was excited, so I joined. This page offered me an incredibly fresh opportunity for me to learn from successful freelancers and gain experience. Soon it started turning to be one of my favorite days, learning from experts in various niches. I started taking time to explore their previous posts and asking questions. Within few weeks of joining the group, I had learned ten times more than I had gained in 9 months. Without wasting any more time, I started implementing all that I’ve discovered within that few weeks, and to my surprise, things began turning around, and my revenue started growing from $15 a month to $200 a month.
It wasn’t big money, but it was a sign of better things to come. Another thing is, I’m daily gaining more experience and exposure which is the most important thing. I began to watch my income grow tremendously, and today, It had increased from $200 a month to $1000 and more.
Since I started online in 2014, one thing I’ve always pride myself in my insistent and unrelenting spirit and I believe this is the secret of the success. I may not have earned as much as top freelancers out there but, with my commitments and dedications, anything is possible.
Choosing to freelance was a turning point for me. Not only has it helped my financial life, but it has also enabled me to gain enough freedom to focus on other vital areas of my life.
