In recent times a lot has been happening and it's either good or bad and all these are coming from people. Different legacies in the world today! We got million dollar legacies being left off by parents to their children and also pains also being transmitted from loved ones, relatives, governments etc.
Now here comes the question! What's your own legacy? What would you leave off?
Is it pain, joy, a memory someone would always live to remember or a scar to always withhold whenever it is seen or spoken of?
Where I reside lately the governmental policies are just too much to behold and adhere to. So many leaders have left us with pains that as long as we live we would always remember.
My kindergarten teacher also left hers on me which I will never forget. As long as I'm still breathing I would always tell anyone that cares to know. She left a scar both in my heart and on my skin. I would have said I wouldn't forgive her but as I grew up I got to realize that to err is human. She never saw the good in me, she never wanted to help me, she wasn't patient enough to bring out the best in me and I always asked myself why then was she my teacher? Out of rage one day in school, she whipped me with a ruler and as soft as my skin was it went open and I bled profusely. She asked me to keep it from my mom. She knew very well that flogging children was prohibited rather, correcting them with love was the best way. I cried as a child and the best I could do was just hate her. I hated her class and really wanted to move to the next one where the teacher there was loving and always smiling.
Whenever I hear her name today it rings a bad and annoying bell in my head. I kept that secret from my mom because I was threatened to be beaten even more during classes where I couldn't answer a question. She instilled fear of learning in me. I just couldn't cope, but I'm glad I didn't let that get on me for too long.
How about wars?
In recent times here in my country I've been hearing rumors of wars going on in some states. Wars leave a bad legacy where when the story is told, it would at least sadden the hearts of many who listened or witnessed it.
Parents!
I won't leave them out you Know! They can make us or Mar us. These sets of humans can influence our lives positively or negatively. Let's take an instance of fighting parents! A child who grew up in a family where there is nothing like love, where the dad is always hitting the mom and the mom is always struggling for survival, always crying, such a child would grow up a total disaster except he or she is rehabilitated and taught properly how to go about living the easy way. Some parents actually leave money, companies, and resources to their descendants just to aid them in living a better life.
Children too also leave legacies, don't be surprised!
As a kid I did something that even today has not gotten outta my mom's head. I remember her cooking in the kitchen and as little as I was I stood by watching her every step. It occurred to me that I asked my mom to give me a chance to cook but she always declined telling me I would when I come of age and funny enough she said I wasn't tall enough to reach the cooker. That hurts me and I told myself I would prove to her that I'm tall enough and I was of age.
She was out to the grocery store and I was home with no one else but my aunt who had come to visit. I pretended to be asleep just to get my aunt outta sight. Yeah! It worked. She left me and went to God knows where! I walked majestically into the kitchen with so much confidence in myself I turned on the gas without putting fire in it. I left it on that way without fire. The gas steamed out and in no time the whole kitchen was smelling of gas. I didn't care about that smell, all I cared about was to prepare my noodles and prove how much of a good cook I can be without my mom's help. All this was due to ignorance of the suicide I was about to commit.
I can't possibly forget this because I narrowly escaped death. Just at the last minute where I got my match box to light up the cooker my mom walked right into the kitchen. I had filled the whole place with water and was just about to light it with fire too. My mom shouted, grabbed the match box from me, pulled me outta the kitchen and locked me up in my room. I didn't understand what was going on, I cried bitterly and wanted to hate my mom for not letting me show her I could cook. It was later she grounded me and told me exactly why she pulled me in an aggressive manner. Till today, my mom still reminds me of my actions whenever I step into the kitchen and at times It gets really annoying.
She has told the story to almost everyone that I know, she even threatens to tell my kids when I eventually have one. This is something I did that wouldn't be forgotten in a hurry. I have tried to live my best life so far so as not to leave a scar or a bad footprint anywhere I go. I try my best to make sure I live right with so many people even if I don't have money to offer to make you remember me in a good way. I always try to offer kindness.
I promised myself I won't give my mom pain anymore right from the day I was grounded. So at least she has a good story to tell of me even before her Demise or mine. Some people have left a huge amount of money and happiness while some also may have left that money but pain too. It's better off to leave a good trail than to leave a bad one.
