In one of my recent posts, I talked about the importance of keeping our wealth a secret and then I got a comment talking about why Hive kinda does the opposite of that. The Hive blockchain is structured in such a way that everyone can see everything happening on the blockchain. Powerups, delegations, portfolio, sent $ received funds, senders and receivers of funds, created contents, deleted contents, just name it. The blockchain is so transparent and this is why quite alot of people perceive it to be curse while some see it as a blessing.
I'd love to address why it could appear as a curse first. You see, keeping things a secret kinda has its importance especially when it comes to wealth. I talked about it this post and we can all agree that to some extent, most accounts on Hive are targets of hacks, exploits, wrong attention and attacks because people see the money in their wallets and are certain it's there. The attack on most of these accounts isn't random and all the attacker has to do is to reach the funds they see. This isn't restricted to Hive though, it's a blockchain thing and most people really don't like the fact that anyone can see how much they have in their wallets.
Well, for Hive, this can be solved to some extent by storing our money in more secured wallets like Hive Engine Wallets and for other blockchains, there are more secured wallets available to store tokens.
I perceive the transparency as a blessing though and one of the most beautiful things about Hive and blockchain tech in general. You see, we're rapidly leaving an era where people have very little to no access to data and information, events carried out in the past and internet footprint of inviduals and entities. The transparency of the Hive blockchain does give every single person the ability to watch, observe and understand what exactly is going on in the Hive Ecosystem. Everything is recorded and obvious to even a child. This technology could be further applied to real life events like elections and examinations where people need transparency. It could also be used to reveal the truth, solve cases and crimes as we've seen countless of times on the blockchain.
Hence, the Hive blockchain's transparency is more of a blessing than it is a curse and I have high expections for what this technology could do in the future.
