Good health is everything in life. This is why it is regarded in every organization. The day anything goes wrong with our health, and we properly report it, leave would be given to us to go and fix it.
This is because without good health, one is as good as a robot without a battery to run on. In that condition, a person is more like a liability than an asset.
Allowing leaves for health issues is a beautiful idea, and it has been very helpful, but you know humans, a majority of people see this as an avenue to run away from work.
I have seen people who were given leave to treat themselves but took it for something else. They
treated themselves and got better, but refused to report to work until the organization decided to retaliate.
I have not seen a situation of a forged medical report to run from work, but I am pretty sure it is possible.
The same people who were once seeking jobs finally got them and are running from responsibilities simply because a provision was meant for them to care for their health.
It baffles me each time I see people taking advantage of what was meant for their own good. It may look like smartness, but that's the highest form of folly.
Imagine that the system decided to scrap that privilege or come up with a rigid policy to cover that advantage due to how it has been abused. How would you feel?
I know that work can be frustrating sometimes, but that's what we signed up for. I don't see any reason why we should be using certain privileges given to us to run from it.
If we were in charge of the work or business, would we still try to act smart to avoid work by hiding behind leaves? I am sure the answer would be no.
Now, if health leave regarding treating proven health challenges is taken for granted, how much more will people abuse mental health leave?
Anyone can just wake up overnight and claim to be going through hard times that are affecting them emotionally and psychologically, which demands some time away from work to recover.
If it continues that way, how many people do you think would be going to work? It will just be like a liberty to stay at home and enjoy one's life.
But don't get me wrong, we all go through mental stress that demands some time away from work to heal.
We go through a lot: stress from work, family, life, and so on; it is really not easy. Having a leave to regain our mental health won't be bad, but the problem is that people abuse it no matter how strict the rules are set to protect it.
