The renminbi is referred to the Chinese currency generally, while the 'Chinese Yuan' is used in the International context. The distinction between the renmindi and the yuan is similar to that between sterling and pound which refers to the British currency and its primary unit.
It became the world's 8th most traded currency in 2013, and 5th in 2015. On October 1 2016, the RMB became the first emerging market currency to be included in the IMF's basket of used currencies.
