Before I start, I like to say 90% of African countries have the most horrible politicians. In places like Uganda, their leaders spends close to 40 years in power, even though they're clearly a democratic state that got colonized by the British.
I think it's the nature of most African politicians. Now, this doesn't mean western politicians do not lie. While I've not lived or been to the west.
I've watched and seen some of their campaigns and speeches on social media, I think Western politicians plays longer games especially when they're lying or manipulating the public with their speeches and actions and all that, but these longer games are most likely not a cause to harm, cheat, scam or dupe the people they're leading.
With African leaders, it's actually a different thing entirely. For example I've heard that I the 1900s or something like that (I can't remember the timeline) the Ugandan leader at the time called Idi Amin was raping people's wives, collecting the lands of people, using the power to steal and suppress people, and held onto that power for really long, while wrecking unforgiving havoc in Uganda, an African country.
Inasmuch as you'd think these happened probably 100 years ago, the truth is that a lot of African leaders are still this way.
Their aim of holding power is that authority it gives them to legitimize crime, use the power to amass unimaginable wealth. Now they don't just do this.
They make sure to gather the elites who are criminals too, and promise to help them legitimize their criminal ventures, if they help them remain in power.
African politicians are on another level or lies, criminality and deception, but we also don't talk enough about how they tend to get away with it by making sure they buy the voices of the elites, and keep weaponizing poverty to actually keep people complacent and docile.
Nigeria is of such countries. With European politicians. It's either they're lying about their religion, their origin, about whether they grew up rich or poor or something like that. This still doesn't change the fact that they're excellent politicians.
For example, the UK has the best political system and even better than in the US, the systems are made to elect the most credible. Since they're mostly not a traditional democratic system, this means they have arms of government that are well structured, vetted to appoint the best with systems that works very well.
I've also seen politics in the UK. Politicians are mostly after whether a contestant is either black, white, English, British and all that. The argument is never about competence or capability, most of their existing politicians are already vetted robbed qualified, before they even get into the primary elections, and most times, it's always arguments and disagreement about race.
I must say, the UK is one of the racist places, while Racism is not inherent, like it's not written, you can still find it in the places of work of people and all that.
For example, Indians are some of the wealthiest population in the UK, and even they there's this dominance and establishment of their value to the country's economy, there's still some tint of racism towards them, especially from people who feel they're traditionally British and every other person who isn't British by ancestry is not real.
It's not just in the UK, it's mostly in other places too. However racism even though I'm not intending to water it down doesn't prevent a lot of racist states from making sure the people in the country have the best amenities and systems to depend on.
For example, North Korea has a weird system of government, but it's still one of the most best countries technologically. Which generally proves that having politicians who wants to actually work and leave a legacy is the barest minimum in most Western countries.
So basically lying is a trait we can associate with politicians, I think it's just a part of them that's formed from years of PR, lobbying, presenting fictions as fact and vice versa has made them this way.
In hindsight I think it's now part of their charisma, and even though I think they can still be elected or perform their duties while telling the truth.
With African politicians, lying is a whole new level, they take it more by being destructive and criminalistic in nature, and this is because of the mechanism on how they actually do it.
But if you're from the west, maybe US, Canada, UK, why do do think your politicians lie, especially if you think I'm not right?
