Recently a new vlogging style went extremely viral here on dtube@dtube. It's called dtubesnap, created by nathanmars@nathanmars. Many video content creators I follow on dtube made at least one video on it. My subscription feed is full of this kind of videos. For those who don't know what this is (you should know it if you're already on dtube@dtube for some time), dtubesnap is a video that follows the following these rules:-

  1. Video must be exactly one minute.
  2. Must be recorded on a mobile phone.
  3. Must not be unedited (means uncut footage goes straight to IPFS).

Well, today I want to change these rules through a fork, and here's why:

  • I don't own a smartphone currently (sold my iPhone 6 back in 2016 for $400 USD), I'm using my Logitech C920 webcam to film all my DTube videos at the moment, with planned upgrade to DSLR.
  • I want to be flexible about what I use to film anything, in case of a need to change video gear (like what I said above that upgrade is planned)
  • I want my final footage to look good (colors, less grainy footage etc).

I will be calling the fork, dtubesnapv7, or simply dtubesnap variant 1. Here are the new rules:

  1. Video must be still exactly one minute long.
  2. Video may be shot with any device (webcam, camcorders, DSLRs...)
  3. Video must be uncut.
  4. Video may be edited without deleting any frames in the middle.
  5. dtubesnap will still be included in one of the tags.

Why dtubesnapv7 and dtubesnap variant 1? That's very confusing, isn't it?

That's the fork naming scheme for a PoW algorithm cryptonight, which is what I used to do PoW mining on my editing rig (it's CPU+GPU mineable), and that's what got me into crypto. 馃槈

Will be uploading my first episode of dtubesnapv7 real soon 馃槆
