why the frack are 5g mifi routers so darn expensive and what happens to older 4g versions, do they get scrapped properly and repurposed or do we just have hundreds of thousands of these out of date, out of support devices just knocking about?

with the speed of vulnerability find and protocol standards changing so far, especially with the pace of 3g to 5g (and 6g being tested) it does make me wonder if we are adding to climate change when we push out a standard for it to be replaced a year later.

this cycle of jacking up the cost of brand new equipment because it cost them mega bucks for the next generation spectrum license and passing that "r&d" cost onto the customer has to change somehow -- i don't know how and they kinda corner the market but someone must have a way to break through.
