I had an appointment in the afternoon near Theater Square, so I took advantage of the opportunity to go into the courtyard of a small exhibition complex. This exhibition complex only recently received museum status, in 2016. Its official name is "Museum of Art of St. Petersburg XX-XXI centuries". This museum does not have a permanent exhibition yet, it is in the near future plans. For now, the museum holds exhibitions of contemporary artists and sculptors.
The exhibition space starts right outside the gates, in the courtyard of the museum. Sometimes it happens that the exhibition starts even earlier - the exhibits may look out of the windows, take over part of the quay space in front of the courtyard, or spread out over the water area of the canal.
A peek into the courtyard reveals unusual sculptures and multicolored graffiti on the walls. There is also a small coffee shop. In winter you have to climb the stairs in the corner of the courtyard to get inside the cafe, but in summer some of the tables are located right in the courtyard and you can drink coffee with a view of the art.
It wasn't in my plans to go inside the cafe and have coffee, since I was in a hurry to get to a meeting. But my brain didn't seem to agree with that agenda. It decided that coffee was an important goal and started showing me coffee shop signs at almost every turn. On another day I might have walked past these cafes and not noticed them, but not this time.
By the way, do you know the difference between real bloggers and fake bloggers? Real bloggers never forget to take a picture of a cup of coffee with a beautiful drawing that the barista made on the cappuccino foam. Non-real bloggers only remember to take a picture after they have already taken a few sips of the invigorating beverage.
By the time I got free, it was almost completely dark, but I decided to continue my walk. I wanted to see the festive decorations on the square in front of the Exchange building. But the first thing that caught my eye was a wooden booth with a cute design on it. I assume that the inside holds gardening tools - shovels, rakes, and the like.
After looking at the wooden booth and walking along the lower terrace, I finally found myself near the main goal of my walk: the festive Christmas tree. The entire area is decorated with rows of colorful glowing balls on long legs. Most of all they resemble tailor's pins. It looks unusual, but very beautiful.
