We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
Christmas is celebrated on the 24th in Finland, which means that the 25th is the recovery day - and boy did our puppy need it! After being held and played with by everyone all day on the eve, he slept in on the 25th, got up to eat, and then slept most of the day. He was broken - but it was nice to see that it is possible for him to be calm.
I thought for this WTF, I would ask the audience (you) what the best bit of Christmas was this year, and why. Of course, some people reading might not celebrate Christmas, so instead, just tell the best part of the week and why.
On a side note, I don't like the "Happy Holidays" greeting instead of Merry Christmas, even if many people don't celebrate Christmas. The reason is that it is a time of the year that many people mark as an occasion, so celebrate or not, it is no different to saying "Good morning" to people, even if they don't like mornings. It is just a time of the day.
The world is far too focused on irrelevant details.
While the things that actually matter, go unattended.
Btw, I am not only not Christian, but I don't believe in a God - and still celebrate Christmas because it is fun to celebrate, eat well, meet family and have a few days off that are spent a bit differently than most of the other days of the year. Who cares about the religious nonsense of it all - just enjoy life a bit more.
I know.... controversial...
I think the best bit of Christmas for me wasn't Christmas itself, but spending the last two days "post-Christmas" hanging around, eating and watching movies with just the three of us + Puusti the dog. It has been quite nice and Smallsteps has been laughing during the ritual of Home Alone 1 and 2 chosen by my wife, as well as my choice, Elf. It has been a good way to just hang out together - which we don't do enough in my opinion.
What about you?
