We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
1. Is it Real Gold?
There are apparently 74 nations competing in the Commonwealth games, though I am not sure if the games are worth it at all. It is Day 7 of 11 and the top of the medal standings looks like this:
At what point does it become wholesale pointless?
Though I get it. I believe that any opportunity to represent your country in sports would be pretty amazing, even if it isn't against the highest level competitors. There is of course some competition among some of the sports, but for something like swimming where Australia took thirty seven gold. I don't know how many events there were in swimming in total, but that is a fair whack of them I am sure.
2. Almost there!
60,000 Moroccans have stormed over into Spain - only it really isn't Spain, is it? They are technically on Spanish territory, but it is an exclave of Spain, which is next to Morocco and still very much in North Africa. So they are in Spain, but are not really any closer to getting into Europe. I guess if they are feeling sporty, they can still make the 22km swim to the mainland, but it seems to me that they are not really any closer to entry. Maybe they get some administration rights to apply for asylum or something, but they are definitely a captive audience still.
3. The great replacement
Donald Trump has apparently banned the entry of Chines e humanoid robots into the US, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as all Chinese humanoid robots know Kung Fu. But for those who think it is to protect against a Chinese invasion and security concerns to protect Americans, I would suggest it is more to protect the US-made humanoid robots that will be rolling out of the likes of Tesla and other companies to take jobs and replace American workers anyway.
The great replacement isn't by having foreigners replace white people, it is to have automation replace all people. Very soon you will be useless, as well I, our children, and I would say our children's children - but they are unlikely to ever be born.
Robots need lubricant.
By how fucked we are, we will need it too.
